Park Kiosk

  • Downtown Development Authority, Kalamazoo, Michigan
  • Initiated 2009; Scheduled completion 2010
  • Mixed-use park building for housing a sales area, food and drink machines, and public bathrooms. Prototype for several buildings to be used in parks in the city.

The goal of the project was to provide a building that would house restrooms, vending machines and provide surveillance for the park when necessary. Richard Light’s design is inspired by 19th century park buildings. The kiosk will be made of green steel and resembles a miniature railroad station with men’s and women’s restrooms on both sides and on the end a sales area for coffee and children’s toys. On the other end, there are vending machines dispensing drinks and snacks.
